Computer Vision is a scientific discipline which produces technologies that interpret images and act according to the context in which they are applied. It can be regarded as the sub-discipline of Artificial Intelligence focused on perception which makes machines that can see.

We are currently in the throes of a revolution in Artificial Intelligence which is running parallel to the revolution in data. In fact, the Computer Vision market is forecasted to grow from 18 billion dollars in 2018 to 46.6 billion in 2022, with an annual growth rate of 32,9%.

Catalonia has a solid RDI system which has made a decisive contribution to creating a science and tech-based ecosystem within this discipline. In recent years, this Catalan ecosystem has become one of the most productive in Europe, a benchmark in terms of both knowledge generated and economic impact. The Catalan Vision groups are the largest and have the most financing of all of all the consolidated research groups affiliated with the Catalan Government in the field of computational sciences. In fact, there are more than 90 companies in Catalonia in which vision is the core technology, with an aggregate turnover of over 120 million euros.

This has led to the founding of the Computer Vision Catalan Alliance which brings together all the stakeholders in the ecosystem to join forces in attracting and retaining talent and generating a social and economic impact from knowledge, in order to make Computer Vision one of the benchmark tech assets in Catalonia in research and innovation.
